Default Commentating PvP matches

I think it would be fun to take videos of PvP battles and then add audio commentary to them, like sportscasters:

"The Red team is in the lead by 2 kills with 45 seconds to play..."

"Look at that health bar, Ted. The red team's monk is in trouble..."

"Uh-oh. He's been hit with a health degeneration spell!"

and so on.

I wanted to know what software tools could be used to do this. There are basically two things I need to do: extract the video from the battles and then add my own audio commentary. Also, I wanted to know where I could get my videos hosted if I want to put them up for viewing on this forum.

It might become pretty easy in the near future, even without video capture software like FRAPs. What with this "observer mode" we keep hearing about, supposedly they're incorporating a replay feature. What I'm wondering is if the replays will simply be files playable inside the GW client only, or whether they'll actually be video files. If they are videos, then you could easily make vids of a pvp match and then just dub over the audio. I'd love to help out with a project like that, it could easily end up being like MXC, if anyone here is familiar with that show.

Lemme know if you seriously want to get into it. I'd be happy to help.

Unreal Tournament with the free UTV add-on had the option to watch top clan matches. And for very important matches like cup finals you could even listen to Shoutcast commentaries.

Fun!

"He used Signet Of Judgement!! She'll be wondering what hit her, Mac!"

Yeah this idea sounds brilliant, and I hope this is implemented in the Observer Mode!

Point, this sounds really awesome... like watching mini-medievil-wars with magic

also the audio would be cool... also if you could type in a character name and see the battles that they've fought in

This was done with one of the best ever MMOG's - TRIBES - thru a fansite and allowed you to connect to the realtime video stream + audio commentary. It freakin rocked to watch a ladder match from this perspective as it not only made you familiar with players you might not otherwise meet as well as allowing your guild to strategize for a possible future challenge.
Essentially the map/arena area allowed for the max# of players per team +1 (announcer/moderator) who was capturing the match via video thru his PC. In Tribes admin mode you simply clicked your mouse button to switch views or player you're viewing. Yeah Yeah I know this ain't Tribes....just giving an example that I've seen it done and done well and that I'd LOVE for that option here with GW

It sounds hilarious, but i think it can get annoying after some time.
if implemented, please a turn-off switch.

there may be a commentation button when the patch will come out, so don't worry about it!

I would NOT want to hear the commentary if I was fighting. That would be distracting. And who is to say that the commentator isn't working for the other team? They could distract people by saying that your monk is being targeted while he is actually not.

The commentary should only be available for the spectators and the final edit of the match.

Great idea though!

The commentary wouldn't be IN GAME, where players in a match could hear but rather for non-participants to listen to while the GvG was taking place.

how about just making a/v clips and posting them here? there's too much "AN needs to add thsi to gameplay" going on as it is.

LoL.

Re: The Running Man. Theres a start for your comments.

And you could probley record a video via FRAPS, then use a program like Teamspeak to record your voice (or any other voice program). Run Windows Media Editor then just combine the two. Presto.

<--- Greatest Tribes player ever.

i can see it now...

Commentator: "Ands he's off running ladies and gentlemen. The blue teams warrior is rounding the bend.........over the bridge"

Color Commentator: "Uh-oh. Seems the red team ranger is gonna take a shot at him.

*insert noise of arrow hitting shin bone, and a collective grunt*

Color Commentator: "ooooo, thats gotta hurt."

Commentator: "Just when he thought he was home free, tagged by a ranger's pin down shot. Seems the rest of the red team is catching up."

Color Commentator: "well that just goes to show you, you can never outrun an arrow. He was taken down faster then a monk with a wamo complex."

*insert sounds of death and dismemberment*

Commentator: "well that concludes our random pvp showcase for tonight, stay tuned for the highlights of the night and comming up after: Devona: behind the glory"

ah, this would have some very good potential

Hmm... this would definitely fit in with the observer mode deal thing ma-bob.
Now, you are talking about real people commentating right? I suppose they could do it like in Madden (the football games), where they have a specific sound replay for each circumstance... hmmm..

well, a system similar to HL-TV (used to watch top counterstrike matches and so on) would be fun in GW ...
